Mr. Martin was my 10th grade English teacher in 1975. I recall how much he loved his students and literature. I have fond memories of a kind and gentle soul. God's peace to his family and friends.

I taught in the room next to Bill from 1985 until his retirement. We shared our love of literature and of our precious pets. The pets in his life were truly blessed to have Bill as their caring person. He was generous and caring to all beings in his life. My thoughts and prayers are with those he loved.

Mr. Martin had a saying posted in his classroom - "I wondered why somebody didn't do something; then I realized, I am somebody." I have remembered that quote since high school (Class of '86). Whenever it runs through my mind, which is often, I think of him.

I am sorry for your loss.

I knew Bill as a great teacher, and also as a close friend. Though we grew apart in later years, I think of him fondly... he was a wonderful man and would do anything for a friend. My condolences to his family... we have lost a kind soul, with a heart of gold. Rest in peace....

I graduated from Matoaca High in 1972. I never liked school but Mr. Martin's class was often the one bright spot in my day. He was a wonderful teacher that opened new worlds through literature, reading and poetry.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Mr. Martin was a respected and BELOVED part of that Matoaca community. So very sorry to hear of your loss. He touched the lives of so many people - and they all have lost a little in learning of his passing.

Please know you are thought of and how thankful we all are for having had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Martin was one of my favorite teachers! I can still remember reading the novel, Spencer's Mountain, in his class, as well as great American literature!

My deepest sympathies are extended to his family.

Rest in peace, Mr. Martin!
