Butterworth, Rosemary Westerman, widow of Harold Alvin “Bully” Butterworth, died Monday, August 30, 2010. The daughter of Elmer C. and Katie Mae Westerman. , she was born November 16, 1926 in Clifton Forge, VA. Upon graduation from Clifton Forge High School in 1944 she attended Mary Washington College where she graduated in 1948. She then moved to Hopewell, VA where she taught the seventh grade for many years in the Hopewell School System. She was a former member of the Hopewell Junior Woman’s Club, a founding member of the patrons committee for the James River Ball, a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hopewell. She is survived by two children, H. Curtis Butterworth (Donna) and Barbara B. Batts (Phil); six grandchildren, Christopher Curtis Lilley (Sara); Katie Lilley Odell (John); Michael Cameron Lilley; Brandon P. Butterworth (Jessica); Brooke Ashley Butterworth and Bennett Douglas Batts; one great grandchild, Carter Reynoldson Butterworth and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Elmer C. Westerman, Jr. (Mary Ellen) and her sister Barbara W. Newlon (Howard). Special thanks and gratitude go to her devoted care givers, Ronnie and Terry Mitchell. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Browder, pastor officiating.
