Dr. Tadesse Mebrahtu, 61, of Prince George, VA. died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Dr. Mebrahtu was born in Asmara, Eritrea, East Africa. Dr. Mebrahtu was the son of the late Mebrahtu Woldeyesus Irit and Tselat Hagos Berhane. He was a Research Scientist/Plant Breeder at Virginia State University. He was a member of Crop Science Society of America and American Society of Agronomy. He is survived by his wife, Aurora C. Mebrahtu, two daughters, Dr. Semret T. Mebrahtu and Asmara T. Mebrahtu, two brothers, Amare and Tesfamariam, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Virginia, 23060. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss com

I had the good fortune to know Dr. Tadesse Mebrahtu very well over several years. And, while we didn't work at the same University, we always managed to be able to share information. Dr Tadesse Mebrahtu become more than a colleague; he become my friend and I am truly sorry to lose his friendship. I am only offer my sincere sympathy to you and your family at your time of loss of Dr. Tadesse.

I pray that the LORD keep my esteemed colleague’s soul in HIS presence and give his family and friends strength to bear this loss. Dr. Mebrahtu, a colleague of mine for more than 18 years, was a source of extreme comfort to me. I will miss a GOOD friend and a GOOD man.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Tadesse. I know how difficult this must be for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. He was such a kind, gentle soul. He would do anything to help someone in need. Tadesse will truly be missed.

Just a bit ago we were working in the fields and you worried about the weather and now God has taken you with him.
It was an immense pleasure to have gotten to know you and work day by day at your side. I miss seeing you in the fields, and always will admire your professional work ethic.
