Bruce Alan Eastman, 53, of Hopewell, died March 28, 2010 at his residence. Born in Hopewell, he was the son of the late Julius John and Mabel Blankenship Eastman, who were instrumental in organizing the HAARC and Camp Happy Acres. Surviving are a sister, Lillian C. Eastman of Hampton, VA, brothers J. Wayne Eastman and wife, Barbara, of Clarksville, VA, Donald R. Eastman, Bruce’s primary caregiver, of Hopewell and L. Russell Eastman of Stone Mountain, GA.; four nieces and 1 nephew, 1 great-niece and 3 great-nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son from 7 -8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Hopewell Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Rickman, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during your loss. I remember Bruce very well from our childhood. Those were remarkable happy days. What a sweet spirit Bruce had. We should all be more like him! Although our paths have not crossed in recent years, my mind goes back to Atlantic Street and the memories flood my soul. I will pass this along to Larry who resides in Myrtle Beach.
