Elizabeth Pearl Bowlin Maitland, 87, of Sutherland, widow of John Kenneth Maitland, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010. Born in South Boston, VA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Bowlin and Mary Myrtle Walker. Mrs. Maitland was a retired employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. She loved to dance and was an avid sports fan. She was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, and Rusty Wallace, but was most loyal to her grandchildren in their youth league sports. Mrs. Maitland was preceded in death by a son, J. K. Maitland, Jr.; daughter, Ann Maitland Davis; brothers, David Bowlin and Norman Bowlin; sisters, Sally Brown, Elsie Dawson, and Grace Newman; and a niece, Shirley Olive. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by a daughter, Lisa Bess (Jeff);one sister, Alma Long of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Kim Norwood (Perry), Robert Davis, Jr., Amanda Bess, and Kyle Russell; great-grandchildren, Taylor Davis and Matthew Norwood; son-in-law, Robert Davis all of Sutherland; special sister-in-law, Alease Maitland of Matoaca; special friends, Janet and Jimmy Cline, Nancye Keene, and Danielle Coleman; six nieces and two nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held at Noon Thursday, March 18th at Southlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Jonathan Turner, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
