Ella Marie Hubble James, 94 of Colonial Heights, died Monday, March 8, 2010. She was born on October 22, 1915, in Victoria, Virginia. She was the fourth child of John Ransome Hubble and Mary Amanda Buchanan. She was predeceased by all five of her siblings and a granddaughter Tricia Whitaker White. Ella was a graduate of Blackstone College and Madison College where she received a B.S. in home economics in 1938. During her career she worked for the V.P.I. Agricultural Extension Service in Nansemond and Chesterfield Counties. Later, she worked at UNC Greensboro. Mrs. James is survived by her two daughters, Gay Rice Whitaker and her husband, Russell and Betsy Rice Tanner and her husband, Steve; by her granddaughter Patty Ackerman and her husband, Todd and her great-grandchildren, Kristin Ashley White, Ella Marie Ackerman and Steven Todd Ackerman, II; two nephews, Ernest J. Hubble of Roanoke and Eugene Hart and his wife, Linda of Victoria and a special friend Roy F. Lane. The family expresses their appreciation to the caregivers at Colonial Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6-8 pm in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Senior Citizen’s Club, 127 Roanoke Avenue, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Ella was a very special woman to our family and to my Dad, Roy Lane. She brought Daddy 9 1/2 years of happiness he would not have known without her.

She will be missed but her love lives on with us.
