John Scott Holmes, 85, of Richmond, widower of Agnes Elder Holmes, died Thursday, December 31, 2009. He was a native of Petersburg and son of the late Clarence and Essie C. Holmes. John was a World War II, US Army Veteran and a retired general contractor. He is survived by his son, John C. Holmes; three step-children, Carol Elder Langford, Edward M. Elder, Sr. and Ronald T. Elder, Sr.; a sister, Doris H. Bragg; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday, January 6 at Blandford Cemetery.
