Appleby, Edmund E.

Edmund E. Appleby, 80, of Hopewell, died Monday, November, 30, 2009 at Johnston-Willis Medical Center. He was one of four children born to Earl G. and Ethel M. Appleby of Bridgeport, CT on January 6, 1929. He joined the U. S. Army in April. 1946. A veteran of the German Occupation Forces and Korean Conflict, ending his military career as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) at Fort Lee, VA in November, 1966. Mr. Appleby worked at Fort Lee an additional 18 years, retiring as Supply Management Division Chief, Enlisted Supply Department of the U. S. Army Quartermaster School in 1985. His wife, Elisabeth “Ilse” M. Appleby survives him; and two daughters, Dawn M. Appleby Lero and husband, Carl, of
El Paso , TX and Karen M. Appleby of Michigan, one granddaughter, Michelle A. Byrge of Beckley, WV; one sister, Elaine L. Brelsford of Summerfield, FL. along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 5- 6:30 p.m. at the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009 in the Nazareth Lutheran Church at 4 p.m. with Pastor David Voss, officiating. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Koehler Scholarship Fund, Nazareth Church, 1711 Grant Street, Hopewell, VA 23860. Uncle "ED" is a truly remarkable man, who has always had such an upbeat character, and our hearts go out to Ilse, Dawn, Elaine, and everyone else who was fortunate enough to know him.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Please know that God will comfort and sustain you. Psalms 34:18 says that He is near to those broken at heart and saves those crushed in spirit. Please keep His promises close to your heart. I offer my deepest sympathies to your entire family.
