Englehart, Earl C., Jr.

Saturday, October 17, 2009

Earl Conrad Englehart, Jr., 74 years young, boarded his trusty Cessna 172 to begin his journey to the afterlife on October 17, 2009 (minus a few body parts, which he left behind in order to save other lives). Waiting to greet him at his destination are his parents, Earl C. Englehart, Sr. and Julia Melada Englehart. On the runway to send him off are his beautiful wife of 40 years, Diana Shaffer Englehart; his lovely daughter, Elyse Englehart Jennings; his trusted son-in-law, David “DJ” Jennings; and his beloved grandson and wingman, Jackson Conrad Jennings. Other well-wishers include his brother, Ronald Englehart; his beloved mother-in-law, Jean Shaffer; sisters-in-law, Charlene (Mike “Mo”) Marinchak, Linda Bates, and Jeannie Bolton; his brother-in-law, Chuck (Sheila) Shaffer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Earl proudly served in the United States Army as a field radio mechanic, stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany from 1954 – 1956. His earthly passions included flying, cooking (and eating), winemaking, recycling old things into “new” things, (he always said he was “green” before “green” was cool) researching WWII events, laughing, and being a loving husband, father, and PapPap. Earl’s loved ones will entertain other well-wishers at the Chesterfield chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. His final earthly landing will take place at Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township, PA. In lieu of flowers or gifts please send a donation in his memory to the American Red Cross- Greater Richmond Chapter 420 East Cary St. Richmond, VA 23218. Condolences to the family may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Condolences

Elyse,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Although I never met your father, I know he was an incredible man to have raised such a wonderful daughter whom I am proud to say is my sister.
Love, Missy

Diana,

I am so sorry to hear of Earl's passing. I know from all the years of working with you how much, Earl loved you and Elyse and loved the life you shared together. I felt like I knew Earl and Elyse through you. From your stories I always knew what a good man he was. I think of you so often and I always think of Earl on February 3. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to let me know.

Love
Bobbie

Mrs Engelhart, I am saddened to hear of your husband's passing. I am the nurse from the operating room you spoke with on the phone several times Thursday night. I did not know your husband, but reading his obituary made me think he was a great man, who had an extraordinary life. He was part of the "Great Generation" that helped build America into a great nation. I pray you find some peace and comfort in this time of sadness. My sincere condolences. Patrick Wallace, RN
