Carter, Philip L.

Philip L. Carter, age 68, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009. He was born in Cabell County, West Virginia, son of the late Gaston Cline and Lula Sybil Carter. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, Keith, Jerry and Daniel Carter, and sisters, Helen Erwin, Naomi Clark and Loretta Carter. Mr. Carter resided in Virginia since 1962 and retired from American Tobacco in 1996 after 30 years of service. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1963. Mr. Carter is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Mellessia Carter; daughter, Kim Wyatt and husband, Mike; son, Timothy Carter and wife, Beth; grandson, Alan Michael and wife, Kayla; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Wyatt; siblings, Mike, Rodney and Lloyd Carter, Sharon Nance, Deloris Bias and Judy Ross; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Condolences to the family may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com

I was so sorry to hear of Phillip's passing. Timmy, you and your family will be in my prayers through this very difficult time. I remember working with Phillip at Wal-Mart. He was always so kind to me and he was a very special person.

Carter Family,

I was sadden to hear of Phil's passing. I worked with him and he was a loving person and one of the nicest man I worked with. I know he will be missed. God Bless all of you.
