Roy Wynn Sheffield, 56, a resident of Waverly, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Born in Sussex County, he was the son of George Edward and Grace Peffer Sheffield. He was the husband of the late Merle L. Sheffield.
He was a hard working and caring father and grandfather and is survived by his children, Dale Pope and wife, Brenda, Ellen Britton, Sherman Pope and wife Cheryl, Rita Pope McPherson and husband, Aubrey, and Jennifer Jenkins; 13 grandchildren, D.J. Britton, Christina Pope, Linda Britton, Crystal Pope, E.J. Pope, George Pope, Brian McPherson, Alex McPherson, Michael Foster, Christopher Foster, Rebecca Pope, Matthew Pope, and Carrie Jenkins, ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Tony, Clarence and Sammy Sheffield; and a sister, Mary Harless.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13 , 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield with Rev. Ted Upton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8PM.
