Hyre, Ruth SummersMonday, March 30, 2009
Wakefield, Virginia Ruth Summers Hyre, 85, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly. She was the widow of Randall Lee Hyre. Born November 5, 1923, in Ragland AL, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lindy Mae Higgenbothem Summers. In 1944, Ruth joined the U.S. Navy. Serving her country proudly, she was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon and American Campaign Ribbon before her honorable discharge in July 1946. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewater Academy Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1000, Wakefield, VA 23888. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009, in Wakefield Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Kerr officiating. Purviance Chapel, J. T.
