Cummings, Jr., Eugene H.

Eugene H. Cummings, Jr., 86, died March 28, 2009. For many years he operated Cummings’ Store in Prince George County, which was opened by his father in 1909. He also was a US Mail Carrier for over 25 years. Gene was a native of Prince George, a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the Prince George Ruritan Club, and a lifelong member of Sycamore United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; two sons, Jerry and his wife Jane of Richmond, and Kevin, of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Loreighn Stewart; three grandchildren, Julie Allanson and her husband Jason; Scott Cummings and his wife Robin; Lisa Irving and her husband Riley; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Jocelyn Allanson.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 Broadway, Hopewell, VA. The funeral will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 31 at Sycamore United Methodist Church in Prince George. Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Sycamore United Methodist Church Building Fund, 9710 Old Stage Road, and Prince George, VA 23875. Our hearts reach out to the Cummings family in their loss.
Mr. Cummings was devoted to his country, his family and community.
His legacy will live on through his sons and grandchildren
