Walter S. Grant, a devoted and loving husband, father, and Papa, passed away at the age of 86 on February 24, 2009, at his home in McKenney, VA. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Grant, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Peebles Grant; three children, Sidney F. Grant, Kathryn S. Grant, and Ellen G. Maultsby; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of WWII and served with the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theatre. He spent his last year of service in occupied Japan. He was devoted to his church and community and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday (today) at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow at Asbury Memorial Cemetery. Dear Mrs. Grant,

I am sorry to hear the loss of your husband, Mr. Grant. I knew him from renting one of your homes in McKenney. He helped me by chopping fire wood so we were warm in the winter. He frequented the hardware store where my son works. Mr. Grant would buy pizza for the crew. We saw alot of Mr. Grant driving around McKenney. He always said hello and I can still hear him whistle. He will be missed.
