Ellen Viola Maitland Chinault, 84, of Sutherland, died in St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond on Saturday, February 14, 2009. Viola was born May 10, 1924 in Brunswick County (Warfield, Virginia) to Lee Edward J. Maitland and Alice Jane Martin Maitland. She was the seventh of 10 children. Her first job was at Nottoway Restaurant, Warfield, as a waitress. She worked at the Media Development Company in Hampton, for many years and later retired from Keller's Ladder Investor's Company in Milford. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert James Chinault. She was a very loyal, loving and devoted wife. She was his main caregiver for over four and one half years since he had been bedridden. One sister, Bernice M. Roscopf and her husband, William (Sonny) Roscopf of Newport News. Viola was a special and loving sister, Aunt to many nieces, nephews and cousins and showed God's love to each one of them through her actions. Viola's delight was in keeping children showing her motherly love, often spoiling them rotten, especially to Mrs. Dawn Sheppard and her sisters. She will surely be missed by everyone but we will always have beautiful memories of her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Edward and Alice Martin Maitland, six sisters and two brothers. Friends and loved ones are welcome anytime from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M for open visitation on Monday, February 16 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend Robert Rowland, III at 2 P. M. Tuesday, February 17, in Southlawn Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I AM VERY SAD TO HERE OF HER PASSING. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT THESE DAYS TO HERE OF THE LOSE OF A FAMILY MEMBER. I WISH AND HOPE AND PRAY THAT WE AS A FAMILY CAN STAY CLOSE. I MISS ALL OF YOU VERY MUCH. I WISH THAT WE COULD ALL GET TOGETHER ONE DAY. YOU ALL WERE SUCH A PART OF MY UP BRINGING. THE MEMORIES OF NAINE AND PA AND MOM AND DAD ROLAND BISHOP WE USE TO GET TOGETHER ALOT AND WE HAD GREAT TIMES. SOME BAD TIMES AS WELL BUT THAT HAS MADE US WHO WE ARE ! I LOVED HER AND TRUELY KNOW SHE IS WITH NAINE AND PA AND GOD. SHE IS ANOTHER ANGEL LOOKING OVER ALL OF US.

Vi was a very special woman whom I had the pleasure of knowing when I was her neighbor in Sutherland. She will be missed.
