Flora Little Smith, age 83, of Hopewell, VA, died on Friday, January 23, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born in Rex, NC, the daughter of the late John G. and Mary McNair Little. Mrs. Smith was the widow of the late Lewis F. Smith and the late David B. Crissman. She was also preceded by her siblings, James R. Little and Mary L. Hosea. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Eastern Star for 49 years, and a graduate of the Hopewell High School class of 1943. She is survived by her loving daughters, Kathleen C. Cargill and husband, Michael of Hopewell, and Patti C. Ellington and husband, Ed of Swansboro, NC; step-son, Michael Smith of Prince George, VA; step-daughter, Pat Bronson and husband, Dan of Pottsdam, NY; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece Marilyn H. Bishop of Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home of Hopewell on Monday, January 26, 2008 from 12 to 1 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Condolences to the family may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com

Dear Patti and Ed,
We rejoice that your mom is no longer in pain. I know that she fought hard to keep your world as bright as possible. She was a strong woman and I know that her character lives on in your lives and the hearts of her grandsons as well. Kathy I am so sorry about your mom . We have been neighbors for years. She helped me soo much during Cristina's battle with cancer. I will miss her smile and talks that we had over the years.We will pray for you and your famlily.

Dear Kathleen, Patti and family of "Flora Beth",

I write on behalf of my mother, Mickie Inge Ground,(formerly of Hopewell, VA and close friend of "Flora Beth", since childhood). Mother is very saddened to learn of the death of her childhood friend, since grade school, she always called, "Flora Beth". Thank you, Patti for calling Mom to let her know about your mother. Mom and our family will have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers during your services tomorrow and in the days to come. Our wish for your family is that the Lord will make his presence known to you and comfort you as you close a special chapter in your life and begin anew.

Dear Mike, Kathy, Michelle, and Michael David,
I was so surprised to hear of your Mom's passing. I had no idea she had been ill. Your family has had so much to endure in the past, I am so sorry about this loss as well. You all have such a strong faith of family, I pray God lifts your hearts and keeps you strong in the coming days.
