Owen, Katherine A.

Katherine A. Owen, 94, of Hopewell, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 in Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. She was born in Charlotte County, VA and had been a long time resident of Hopewell. Mrs. Owen was a graduate of Longwood College, class of 1935, a member of First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Woman’s Evening Circle, served as treasurer of the local chapter of the APVA, and a member of the Woman’s Club of Hopewell. Along with her late husband, Ben Owen, they founded the Ben Owen Insurance Agency which they owned for many years. Mrs. Owen was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna Bailey Adams and the widow of Benjamin M. Owen, Sr. She is survived by a son, Benjamin M. Owen, Jr. and his wife Paige of Hopewell, a daughter, Linda Owen Wright and her husband Bobby of Smithfield, four grandchildren, Benjamin Owen, III of Brooklyn, NY, Mary Katherine Owen of Hopewell, Robert Wesley Wright, III and his wife Lynne of Arlington, VA, Justin Owen Wright of Smithfield, two great grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Owen of Hopewell and Robert Stockton Wright of Arlington, VA, two sisters, Margaret Springer of Ansonville, NC, Dorothy Haley of Charlotte County, VA.and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronald K. Bullis pastor officiating. Interment will be in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George County, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1107 W.
