Pierce, Jr., Rev. Soney J.

Rev. Soney J. Pierce, Jr. walked through the valley of the shadow of death on October 28, 2008. He always said that where there is a shadow there has to be a light, and that light is Jesus Christ the light of the word. He often honored South Norfolk High School as the foundation for his education. Feeling his call to the ministry, Rev. Pierce continued his education attending; Tidewater Community College, University of Richmond and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is survived by his wife, Juanita E. Pierce; one son, Soney J. Pierce, III of Chesapeake; one daughter, Karen Pierce Williams of Williamsburg; one sister, Eileen Lassiter of York County; step children, Bonnie Blythe and husband, Ronnie of Chester, Connie Lythgoe and husband, Tommy of Bracey, and Buddy Emory of Dinwiddie; three nieces, one nephew, six great nieces, three great nephews and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 7204 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, VA 23803 with Rev. Rodney Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.
