Thomas Boyd Turley, age 87, of Chesterfield, VA, died on Wednesday, October 01, 2008. He was born in Abingdon, VA, the son of the late James E. and Bessie Rhudy Turley. Mr. Turley was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie H. Turley. He was retired after 35 years of service with Dupont, and was a WWII veteran with the U. S. Army. Mr. Turley is survived by three children, Stephen J. Turley and wife Pat, Debra T. Lockhart and husband Allen, and Wendy T. Kemp and husband Gary, all of Chester, VA; six grandchildren, Shane, Paul, and Clint Turley, Amie Leonard, Tammy Blake, and Kelly Burton; twelve great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Olivia, Alex, Jackson, Walker, Austin , Noah, and Miranda Turley, Corey and Dylan Leonard, and Kaylie and Chase Blake; two brothers, Lois Turley of Abingdon, and Carl Turley and wife Elsie of Richmond, VA; one sister, Muriel Bailey of Abingdon; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place there in the chapel on Saturday, October 4, at 12 p.m. with interment following in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. to steve and the entire turley family,working with tom for 25 years,he talked a lot aboutthe hard times.the great depression,world war 2,all a long struggling to get by and feed the family.he did it well.we just lost another of "The Greatist Generation".as i write,america is in the middle of another great recession/depression,i remember what tom told me,"boy,you never own anything,you just rent it from the goverenment".the usa is a more empty place tonight without Thomas Turley.fading away,carl jacobs

I was saddened to read of your loss. I haven't seen or talked to ya'll in years but I have so many fond memories of us kids playing together. Ya'll were like a second family to not only me but Donald and Kevin as well. I pray God will give each one of you strength to get through this difficult time.
