Nancy Louise Batten, 70, of Hopewell died Saturday, August 16, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Tom and Mattie Lee Sykes. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Floria Wilson and Lois F. Sykes. She is survived by her husband William Eugene Batten; daughter, Wanda Batten; son, Russell Batten, Sr. and wife Donna; four grandchildren, Bobby Parker III and wife Melissa, Jennifer Rhodes and husband Charles, Russell Batten Jr. and Carol Batten; two sisters, Effie Ayscue and Gloria L. Lemois; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the chapel. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell. Pops I wont say somehting dumb like I know what ytou are going threw cause I dont..

But I do know that this will be hard and tough on you and you must be strong and brave and allow god to show you the way I have the most respect for you more then you ever knew as you are maybe the strongest person I have ever met in your will power...
Once you set your mind you can do anything allow that will power to keep you going even will you just want to stop...

Wanda and Russell I do know what you are going threw as you know I have been there myself and my heart reaches out to you all we may not be family in a way anymore however in my mind we will always be one.

We may not have always gotten along but Nancy was my mother in-law for 18 years and I will miss her and wanted you all to know I am thinking of you and will keep you all in my heart and thoughts

Donna,Jennifer, Bobby, Lil Russell and Carol you will have to be Pops, Wanda and Russells leaning post and hold them up as they will need you more then ever now Huggsss to you all if you need someone to talk to you all know my phone number I love you all

Mr Batten, Wanda and Russell, I will never forget Mrs Batten. I know her name was Nancy Louise but she was always Mrs Batten to me. I just want you to know I will always remember my sweet little neighbor Mrs Batten. I think you all are VERY FINE people and I I know you will miss her. Wanda, you have VERY BIG shoes to follow in her footsteps. I wish I could be there with you in your time of sorrow. Just know she is in the palm of God's hand now and Lillie of his Valley. I love you all, Lorretta
