Jones, Samuel H., Jr.

LTC. (Ret.) Samuel Hugh Jones, Jr., age 76, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008. Born in Evergreen, AL, he was the son of the late Samuel H., Sr. and Mattie Lou Kendrick Jones. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Columbia High School in Columbia, TN in 1950, and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Polytechnical University in 1954. He later earned a Master’s degree from M.I.T. in Florida. Mr. Jones was commissioned in 1954 and was a 28 year veteran of the U.S. Army retiring out of Ft. Lee in 1983. He earned numerous accommodations and medals during the Vietnam Era, and attended the Command General and Staff College in 1971. Mr. Jones also attended the Logistics Executive Development Course at Ft. Lee in 1972. He was a member of the Military Officers of America Association of the United States Army. Mr. Jones enjoyed golf, fishing, and friends. He loved to watch football, golf, and NASCAR. Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Jones; and aunt, Bunny Wester, of Marianna, FL; and many cousins. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow there on Thursday, August 7 at 11 a.m., with interment afterwards in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tennessee Tech. University Athletic Dept.-Football Program Box 5057 Cookeville, TN 38505, the Wounded Warrior Fund, 7020 A.C. Mary Ann, we offer our commiserations on the loss of Sam. We will miss hime at our monthly luncheons and especially his optomistic attitude which everyone looked forward to.

Wanda and I are deeply saddened at the loss of Hugh. He was a good person and I enjoyed being a team-mate of his for many years in High School and at Tennessee Tech. Mary Ann, we hope health is excellent. Just wanted you to know that we are thinking of you at this time.
