Jones, James J.

James Jackson Jones, 88, of Petersburg, passed away Monday, August 04, 2008. Born in Granville County, NC, he was the son of the late Lonnie James and Gracie Yancey Jones. Mr. Jones was employed by Titmus Optical Company for 42 years. He later worked at Ukrop’s in Petersburg for 23 years. He was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Foy Clark Jones and a daughter, Kay Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia J. Dempsey and her husband, Dr. Peter J. Dempsey of Houston, TX and Carol J. Robertson and her husband, Wayne H. Robertson of Quinton, VA; grandchildren, Clare Dempsey of Dallas, TX, Alison Owen of Birmingham, AL, and Christopher Robertson of Quinton, VA; sisters, Zelma Phillips, Erdine Brandon, Rebecca Heath, and Beth Johnson; brothers, Howard Jones and Reid Jones. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 6, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Amis Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Oxford, NC.
