Marvin K. Warthan, 78, of Waverly died Friday, July 11 at Bon Secours St Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. He was born on August 10, 1929 in Wakefield, son of the late Willard Joseph and Keturah Avery Warthan.
He was a graduate of Dendron High School. He attended Carsley United Methodist Church and Wakefield United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer with a deep and abiding love of agriculture. He was a member of Dendron Old Guard, Carsley Hunt Club, Blackwater Sportsman Club, a past president of Waverly Ruritan Club and president of Presson and Warthan of Waverly.
He was the husband of the late Ruth Baker Warthan who died on August 1, 1997. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Eunice Brown Warthan, four daughters, Donna Leigh Warthan, Dianne Warthan Bowen (Stacy) , Debbie W. Rose (Frank), and Terry Leigh Warthan; a son Marvin Keith Warthan, Jr. (Jennifer), grandchildren, Richard L. Stuart, Jr., Charles W. Stuart, Avery Ruth Warthan, Shelby and Maggie Pike, stepdaughters, Cheryl Pettway (Herb), Carole Thorpe (Randy), Connie Milne (Ray), step grandchildren, Ashley Pettway (Misty), Elizabeth Pettway, Hillary Thorpe Tedesco (Pat) and R.C. Milne (Tracy), a twin brother, Melvin Warthan (Evelyn); a sister, Mae Katherine Loughridge.
He was predeceased by two brothers Linwood F. Warthan and John W. Warthan; and a sister Ermine F. Oakes. He cherished and loved each and every member of his family.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Wakefield United Methodist Church in Wakefield, officiated by Rev. Ray Rowland and Rev. G.C. Branton. The family will receive friends Monday July 14, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Purviance Chapel in Wakefield. Private interment will be at a later date. The family wishes to thank the doctors and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond for their compassionate care. Memorial donations may be made to Carsley United Methodist Church, 224 Otterdam Rd., Waverly, VA 23890 or to Wakefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 87, Wakefield, VA 23888. Arrangements are being handled by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Purviance Chapel in Wakefield. Condolences may be posted at our website www.jtmorriss.com.

I was Donna and the girls school bus driver for 2 years. Seems like only yesterday he called regarding a renter reference... Please know you'll are in our thoughts and prayers.May God bless and comfort you.
