Newton, Lois C.Sunday, June 15, 2008
Lois Clarke Newton, 82, of Colonial Heights, widow of Shelton T. Newton, Sr., passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008. Born in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Porter and Leila Williams Clarke. She was an active member of First Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by a son, Shelton T. “Shelly” Newton, Jr., six sisters, and a brother. She is survived by her son, Kenneth C. Newton and his wife, Tracy of Petersburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Colonial Heights Health Care Center for their care and support. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Dwayne Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Wesy Chappell, 1117 Fort Hayes Drive, Petersburg, VA 23805. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com. My deepest and sincere condolences in the passing of Mrs. Newton. I remember the first time I met her, at the Colonial Heights Food Lion, with her son Shelly. She just made such an impression on me. I will always remember that day. The last time I saw her was at Shelly's service. She showed remarkable strength and dignity as only a mother could. May she rest in the eternal light of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with her Husband and son. God Bless.
