Douglas, Roger W.

Roger Willard Douglas of Mooresville, NC, formerly of Hopewell, VA, died at home on Sunday, May 4, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Hobbs Douglas and Orlin Emmet Douglas and his beloved grandmother, Pinkey Mable Hobbs. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hopewell until moving to Mooresville, NC five years ago, joining Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong member of Dupont Lodge No. 289 A.F. & A. M. His early employment was with Randolph Market and later was in partnership with Brownie and Chic Hobbs at the Sinclair Service Station. From there to Staff Manager for Southland Life Insurance Company and then a Supervisor with American Tobacco Research Center from which he retired in 1992 after 23 years of service. Roger enjoyed the friendships formed over the years and matching humor and wit with them was a favorite pastime. He is survivied by his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine Goyne Douglas, his devoted son, Paul Bryan Douglas and wife Kathy, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Scott Vidito, MaryCatherine Jennette Douglas and Morgan Lee Douglas, his sister, Rosalyn Couch-Simon & husband Mort, special niece Tony Couch Berry, sister-in-law Marjorie Goyne Rickman, brothers-in-law Alvin Goyne and Jerry Goyne, and many other special family members. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T Morriss & Son. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 502 West Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860 or Broad Street UMC, P.O. Box 1293, Mooresville, NC 28115. Dear Rosalyn and Family, We are so saddened to hear of Rogers passing. I hope you know that our thoughts and prayers are always with you and I am certain that with his last breath here and his first breath in eternity he will be embraced by our Lords grace and peace .
