Langley, Joseph Thomas “J. T.”, 77, of Hopewell, Va. died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in John Randolph Medical Center after a brief illness. . He was born on September 24, 1930 in Wilson County, N. C. and came to Hopewell in 1949, where he lived until his death. He served in the U. S. Army from June,1952-June1954, and served as a MP. After leaving the military he worked at Allied Chemical in Hopewell for 14 years. Then, from 1968 he worked with Hopewell Oil Company/ Parker Oil, retiring from there in September, 1995 as an Office Manager. He attended Wesley Methodist Church in Hopewell. He was a loyal and faithful member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge over the years, was a member of their 25 Club, a past Treasurer, and Honorary Governor. He was recognized “many times” over the years for his Community Service, and dedicated service at functions and fund raising events at the Moose. J.T. enjoyed gardening, saltwater and freshwater fishing, and hunting. Surviving are his wife Irene Juanita W. Langley of 57 years, and son, Joseph T. “Joey” Jr., and daughter-in-law Diane Langley; grandchildren Laura Langley and Kyle Langley, great grandsons, Gavin, age 4 and Owen, age 8 months, all of Hopewell, Va. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Naomi Langley of Wilson, N. C. who were farmers all their lives. Mr. Langley was 1 of 12 children. Brothers Jerry, Harold, Jim, and Leatrice are deceased. He is survived by his brothers Bobby and wife Shirley, and Jarold and his wife Mary Sue, both of Hopewell; sisters, Dorothy Pate and her husband John of Goldsboro, N. C., Betty Jean Pope and her husband Ralph of Kenly, N. C., Ann Ripsom and her husband Frank of Bloomington, Illinois; Jack and his wife Melda of Lucama, N. C. and Carold and his wife Billie of Wilson, N. C. Other survivors include Elaine Langley, sister-in-law in Wilson, NC. devoted sister-in-laws Hilda(Ray) Burke and Jean Clements of Hopewell, Linda Worley of Scotland Neck, N. C., as well as Inez Etheridge of Wilson, N. C. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and special friends. A Moose Memorial Service will be held at 6P.M. Friday , April 25, 2008 with Visitation to follow untill-8P.M. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home .Funeral services will be Saturday, April 26 ,2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home chapel. Following the Interment, a reception will be held at the Social Hall at Wesley United Methodist Church, Miles and Norfolk Street in Hopewell. We have so many fond memories of uncle J.T. (camping & fishing at Chickahominy, many trips to Nags Head, the Blue Goose, Jigs, his sense of humor, and the list goes on and on)... He was a great person and we all loved him and will miss him!
