Alvie J. Lumbus, 74, of Hickory NC, formerly of Petersburg, passed away Friday April 11, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife of 22 years, Phoebe Lois Lumbus, his parents, Raymond A. &
Katherine F. Bartels Lumbus, and a brother, George Lumbus. Mr. Lumbus was a retired Logistics Management Specialist for the United States Army Material Command. He and his wife, Phoebe, enjoyed traveling, making their home in California, New York and Germany before returning to Virginia. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his children, Robert A. Lumbus and wife, Sharon, Cindy L. Penhollow and husband, Bryce, Susan M. Penhollow and husband, Jeff and Michelle R. Powers and husband, Craig; grandchildren, Matthew, Mitch, Elizabeth Penhollow, Richard, Kenny Powers and Jason Lumbus; brother; Raymond Lumbus, step-children; Rhonda Kim Bowers and husband, Kevin, Ralph Dean McNew, Phoebe Denise Adams and husband, Walter, Lelia MarSella Jordan and husband, Jay, Connie Garnette Moody and husband, David, Donald Glenn McNew and wife, Cheryl, and David Wayne McNew and wife, Toby; step- grandchildren, Brett Lois Bowers, Rhonda Haley Bowers, Ashley Morgan Adams, Jason Wayne Jordan, John Abner Jordan, Victoria Chaisce Moody, David Cornell “Moody Jr.”, Isabella Glenn McNew, Breana Paige McNew, Colby Wayne McNew, Kiley Grace McNew, Justin Robert Broom, Cletus Robert “Bobby” Jackson and Brett Avery Jackson; The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM Monday, April 14, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Southlawn Memorial Park with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society/ Petersburg Unit Wesy Chappell-1117 Fort Hayes Dr., Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
