Irene C. Newton, 92, of Disputanta, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at the Medical College of Virginia. Mrs. Newton was born in Belfast Ireland, the daughter of the late John and Sarah Graham Crawford and was a retired sales associate for Thalhimers Department Store.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Newton, sons, Robert J. Newton and wife, Jinda, of Hopewell, William B. Newton, and wife, Linda, of Disputanta, a daughter, Phyllis I. N. Johnson and husband, Jim, of Virginia Beach, six grandchildren, Donna I.N. Hilley and husband, Steve, of Manassas, Phyllis V. Newton and fiancé, Brian Almarode, of Colonial Heights, Robert J. Johnson and Samuel E. Johnson of Virginia Beach, Kyle C. Newton, and Katie L. Newton of Disputanta; two great-grandchildren Aidan P. Hilley and Rhys C. Hilley of Manassas; three sisters Wynne Smith of Victoria, Australia, Patricia Shields and Phyllis Thompson and husband, Reginald, of Belfast, Ireland and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. Please know my thoughts are with you at this time. Your mother was always a charming, gracious lady. Be proud of the way you rallied to take care of both her and your father. Lin, as you well know the loss of a mother is difficult but with the support of your family and friends you will get through this with the knowing that she was loved and respected by all her knew her. Please know I am always here for both of you.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother - mother in law-grandmother. I know she appreciated how you cared for her and took care of her in her time of need. May peace with you during this difficult time.
