I attended school with Dr. Grizzard's son and he is a special gentleman, and a wonderful person.... Your Dad was my obgyn for my first pregnancy. I was into visit him during my fifth month. He listen, very closely and then lifted his eyes and told me "I don't hear a heart beat" I asked politely if I could cry. He held my hand and I shall never forget how kind he was to me ...Heaven has an angel and of that I know for sure...

To the Grizzard family,
I am truly sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Grizzard was an amazing doctor not only for the patients but for the nurses and staff that worked with him. I had that priviledge for many years and his gentle spirit and wonderful manner with his patients was such an inspiration to me as a new nurse working in a hospital for the first time. I remember vividly how caring and gentle he was with each pt. He left behind a legacy that will go on for generations. I will always remember him and your family in this time of loss.

Honesty I only met Dr. Grizzard once and I don't remember that, it was March of 1978 and it was the day I was born. My mother (Annie Davis) regards the late Dr. Grizzard as the best OB/GYN in the state of Virginia, and as we all know mother know best. But Dr. Grizzard is an icon in the Davis' household and will always be remember. Take care and know that your family is in our prayers during your time of lost.
Sincerely,
Nicole A. Davis, M.Ed

Dear Jeff and Shelia,
So sorry to read in the RTD of the passing of your father. I truly enjoyed getting to know both of your parents. They were exceptionally nice people. And I enjoyed hearing your news through them. I googled you to try to send you a card but couldn't find you. Hope you are both doing well.

Dr. Grizzard was a friend of my grandfather and grandmother, H. M. "Pop" Purviance and Annetta "Mom" Purviance of Boykins and also my parents Sam & Hilda Purviance. As it would happen, when my wife Alice went into labor in 1979 with our first child, Dr. Grizzard was on duty and he delivered our son Samuel, and later our daughter (1980) Mary. What an honor to have this great man deliver our children. I remember satnding outside the delivery room and listening to Dr. Grizzard tell me stories about my grandparents and parents in the "old" days in Southampton county.
What a remarkable man, a true patriot and servant to so many, now gone to the reward for his labors. You, his family, have our sincere condolences at this moment. God bless you all.

I did not discover that Sam Grizzard had passed until after the visitation was about over. He delivered our oldest in 1963. I have many fond memories of Dr. Sam Grizzard, especially his favorite saying.
Ginni and I send our sincere condolences to the whole family. We will keep all of you in our prayer.

Shelia, Bill, & Johnny,
Tonight when I was holding each of you in my heart and wishing we could have made it down to see you, there was such a beautiful eclipse of the moon. I thought of your Mom and Dad together looking down at us all and smiling. And so they are. Love across the miles.

Well....my Uncle Sam has actually died. Though I knew better, I guess I thought he was permanent....somewhere out there in Virginia, Florida or traveling the world. Though it's been years since he and Ruth would call and stop by at the Cape or somewhere, it always seemed that it would not be a surprise to hear them on the phone saying they were about to arrive. I'm glad Kate and I got to see Sam at Ruthie's funeral. I've checked the flights and there is no way I can get there in time for tomorrow at 11, but my thoughts will be with you.....and I am confident that what you say will be wonderfully worth hearing.
Sallie and I both send our warmest thoughts.
Take care
Love,
Kevin

For over 20 years, Dr. Grizzard was my friend and physician. He was never too busy or rushed to take the time to ask about my sons. He was the epitomy of what doctors were expected to be. Hopefully, he passed these admirable traits on to his sons.
My sincere sympathy and condolences are extened to his family and many friends who loved and adored him.
