Allen, Effie

Effie Mildred Stewart Allen, 90, of Chesterfield, formerly of Petersburg, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Bon Secours Retirement Community in Chester, after a period of declining health. Born in Church Road, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Talitha Dunnavant Stewart. She retired as an LPN at Petersburg General Hospital, now Southside Regional Hospital. She was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church, Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Calvitte Allen, Sr., and her son, William Calvitte (“Billy”) Allen, Jr. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel S. Atkinson, Pearl S. Davis, and Myrtle S. Calder, and four brothers, Robert Stewart, Lloyd Stewart, Linwood Stewart and David Lee Stewart. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy A. Denike of Chester and Deena A. Fruchtman, of Edina, MN; two grandchildren, Charles Tracy Denike, III and Daphne Alison Fruchtman; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several extremely devoted friends who gave her attention and, most of all, their unconditional love, during the last years of her life. A private graveside service, conducted by Dr. Cecil J. Chambers, will be held in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
