McKimmey, Robert E.Saturday, January 05, 2008
Robert Erie McKimmey, 68, of Matoaca, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Eria Egbert and Blanche Brooks McKimmey. He was a well known and talented musician, playing the steel guitar with several bands throughout Virginia. He was a very devoted family man and a friend to everyone. Mr. McKimmey is survived by his wife, Helen R. McKimmey; daughter, Tracey Elise Hensley and her special friend, Steve Bowling of Chesterfield; step-son, James Trent and wife, Teresa of Palm Bay, FL; step-daughters, Elizabeth Bartlett and husband, Keith of Virginia Beach, Sandra Clifton and husband, Bruce and Patricia Willis and husband, Bobby all of Jacksonville, FL. He was adored by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. We are so glad we had the chance to share that talent with him. He was such a blessing to our group. We enjoyed his company and loved the sound of the steel. He made our songs sound so sweet.
