Elmore, Sr., Joseph D.

Joseph Davis Elmore, Sr., 83, of Petersburg passed away Friday, December 28, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Ann Butterworth Hauser Elmore and his son, Joseph Davis Elmore, Jr. At the outbreak of WWII, Mr. Elmore left VA Tech to join the Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, he returned to Hampden Sydney College where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was an outstanding member of the baseball team. Mr. Elmore was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church and the Country Club of Petersburg. He is survived by his son Michael Keen Elmore of Santa Fe, NM; his daughter Mariamne “Mer” Butterworth Elmore of Richmond, VA; his brother Fletcher Leigh Elmore, Jr. of Louisville, KY; and his sister Mrs. Joseph E. Spruill, Jr. of Tappahannock, VA. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2007 at 2 pm at the St. Marks UMC, 225 Claremont St, Petersburg, with Rev. Robert Hauck officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wesy Chappell, 1117 Ft. Hayes Dr. Petersburg, VA 23805. Dear Mike, Carl and I were so sorry to hear of your father's death. We enjoyed knowing him and your mother over the years. You have our deepest sympathy. We were sorry that we were unable to attend his funeral.

Sorry to hear about Joe's passing. I saw and spoke with him at Terry's funeral and spoke with him after Bennie had died.

We will miss our Elmore boy's.
