Hughes, G. Tommy

Gene Thomas “Hogjaw” Hughes, 60, Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Rachel Barricks Hughes. He was a 1965 graduate of Petersburg High School and was a member of the 1964 Petersburg High School championship football team. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg for over 50 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Hughes is survived by his best friend, Sue Humphries Hughes; son, Gene T. Hughes, Jr. and wife, Beth; step-son, David Newton and wife, Leah; grandchildren, Dylan T. Hughes, Madeline, Gabriele and Angeleah Newton; sister, Patty H. Pugh; brother, Marshall Hughes; and his faithful companion, Roxanne, his American Bulldog. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, December 14, at Blandford Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Dean Frazeur officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Petersburg Unit, c/o Wesy Chappell, 1117 Fort Hayes Drive, Petersburg, VA 23805. my deepest sympathies to the hughes family. its hard to believe there will be no tommy hughes visits any more. he would always have peanuts,watermelons,etc. and a flood of info from our age group.of anyone i know,tommy seemed to get the most bang from his buck.from grade school i enjoyed tommys company and in the future ill keep him in my mind and my heart. fletcher harrison

I can not believe that "Hogjaw" has gone on to the great hunting grounds. I can still remember playing football with him and him busting through the middle of the line. He was a great friend to everyone unless you were on trhe other side of the line facing him. Life is tough but so was Tommy. You will certainly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Tommy's family. I knew Tommy as I was growing up as he was a friend of my brother Charles. Tommy was a good guy and friend. He will be missed.
