Tavel, Charles D.

Charles Dennis Tavel (SFC retired U.S. Army) passed away peacefully December 7, 2007. He was born February 7, 1932 in Quinton, AL. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Tavel; three brothers, Manis, Lewis and Albert, Jr., and his sister, Ruth Tavel White. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Esther; son, Michael Tavel and wife, Pam; daughter, Jan Bennett and husband, William; three granddaughters, Jennifer and Hannah Bennett and Chelsea Poole; brother, Drexel Tavel and wife, Retha of Dora AL; sister, Lucille Ragsdale of Sumiton, AL; two special friends, Patricia Szapanski, RN and Kim Dobson, RN along with numerous and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Charles proudly served his country with two tours of Vietnam and two tours in Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service in Vietnam. Upon retiring from the Army, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, VA until retirement. Charles was an avid fisherman and he loved Alabama football. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that will be deeply missed. A Christian wake will be held on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 6 pm with a visitation to follow at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Service & Cremation Service. A mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Burial will follow with military honors at Southlawn Memorial Park.
