Janet Gray Cook, age 86, of Chester, VA, died on Sunday, December 2, 2007. She was born in East Springfield, NY, the daughter of the late Harold S. and Gladys Benson Gray. She attended Buffalo State College majoring in art education. She joined The Woman’s Army Corp. in 1942 with overseas service in Britain. She attained a rank of corporal, and was awarded The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mrs. Cook fulfilled her love of nature and true spirit through camping, gardening, and her gifted artwork. As an avid swimmer, she swam across the Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, NY, and also skiid the Alps at the age of 58. She is survived by a husband, Thomas F. Cook, whom she wed in 1945, while he was a member of the Royal Airforce, and a native of Devon, England. She is also survived by daughters, Nicky Coe of Chester, and Trish Miller of Milford, CT; sons Roger Cook and wife Deena, of Nanticoke, MD, and Charles Cook and wife Carol, of Navarre, FL; granddaughters, Laura Morse, Kayla Cook and Tarah Cook; grandsons, Brian Coe and wife Mayann, Tommy Coe and wife Toni, Rob Morse and wife Kerri; six great grandchildren, and a brother, Leslie Grey and wife Janet, of E. Springfield, NY. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, in St. John’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Outreach Programs at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 12201 Richmond Street, Chester VA, 23831.
