Dulan H. Garrett, 87, a resident of Smithfield, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. Born February 7, 1920 in High Point, NC he was the son of the late Marion W. Garrett and Trevah Pitts Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a retired mechanic/machinist having worked in the logging business and shipbuilding; had served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II in the European Theater; and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Smithfield. He was primarily a logger and a hard working man all of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Angelia F. Garrett; their son, Wayne Garrett and wife, Martha, of Spring Grove; his sister, Ann Boyer of Moyock, NC; two grandsons, Wayne Garrett, Jr. and Bill Garrett; and one great-grandson, Will Garrett, Jr.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bethany Church Rd., Smithfield, with the Rev. Will Montgomery and the Rev. Joe Savinsky officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel in Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Petersburg Unit, 1117 Fort Hayes Dr., Petersburg, VA 23805. The Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be posted on our website at www.jtmorriss.com

Mrs Garrett-
I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. You have to know that we are all part of the Master's plan and that we need to look to Him for our comfort. I am sure you will miss him after 48 years.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Garratt was a very hard working ,kind man. I have had countless visits with him at the transfer station
when dropping off his trash. He was a very interesting man to talk to, A wealth of information and stories. He will be sadly missed.
