Micklem, Mary F.

Mary Frances Micklem, age 80, of Chester, VA, died on Saturday, November 3, 2007. She was born in Laurinburg, NC, the daughter of the late Archibald and Josephine McDonald Bridgeman and the sister of the late Douglas Bridgeman. Mary Frances was a devoted wife and mother, whose deep faith was an inspiration to others. Her professional career started in 1949 as the Director of Religious Education for the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, VA. Mary Frances was a teacher in Chesterfield County for approximately 30 years at Curtis Elementary School. She was instrumental in starting a tutoring program at Chester Presbyterian Church in conjunction with Curtis Elementary that received considerable recognition. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service to others, and devotion to our nation. Mary Frances is survived by her husband of 55 years, Austen C. Micklem, Jr.; three children, Mark C. Micklem and wife Betsy of Alexandria, VA; Austen “Cliff” Micklem and wife Yolanda of Chester, and Alice M. Micklem of Charlottsville, VA; five grandchildren, Karie, Paige, Carter, Katie, and Laura; sister-in-law, Lucille Bridgeman of Laurinburg; niece Mary Jo Adams; nephew David Bridegman; a great niece, Erica; three great nephews, Paul Douglas, William Edward, and Stephen; and other family and friends. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Chesterfield on Monday, November 5, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, at 1 p.m. in the Chester Presbyterian Church, Chester. Interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Presbyterian Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Association. So sorry to hear of your loss. Your wife sounds like an extraordinary women. You will have great memories for a lifetime.

I am still at Alexandria CSU and think of you whenever I reminence with Bill Bader.
