To all the Family,
Because of a newpaper article in the early 1960's about my hymnbook collection, "Miss Lizzie" wrote to me offering to add to it! We became "pen pals," and it was my privilege to visit her several times before her death in 1971. I became acquainted with "Miss Dorothy" somewhere along the way, and we have kept up a Christmas correspondence through all the years. By "appointment" I saw her at Jamestown a couple of times; and a few years ago when I was at Surry H.S. with the Scholastic Bowl team from Chincoteague H.S. I called her on the phone - with the principal's help - and she came over to the school where we enjoyed seeing each other that pleasant winter afternoon. Both Miss Dorothy and her mother were remarkable ladies, and I have felt so blessed to have known them. I attended a service at Moore's Swamp Church before it burned, and Miss Lizzie and I went one Sunday to Mill Swamp; So I could follow in memory the journey you made today, though I have not traversed that route in more than 35 years.
Please be aware of my sincere sympathy.

To the Family,

Mrs. Grubbs was a great woman and I enjoyed our conversations at the Surry Library.

The children of Surry County will miss her weekly storytime and the county will miss her great love for the county's history.

To all of the family,

My thoughts are with you as you experience this great loss in your lives. The connection with your family came when my father, N. C. Clifton, was pastor of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church, in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

I remember your family well, even though I was a child at the time, and remember you fondly. It was a trip down memory lane for me to read all of the family names in the Richmond Times Dispatch, and a treasure to remember you all.

My Mother, Mary Clifton, just died on July 25, 2007, so I recall well the power of the loss of a loved one, and send my love and best wishes to you all.

It would be wonderful to reconnect with you after so many years. I am in Richmond. Please be in touch when you are able.

With much empathy,

Tricia (Patricia Clifton Harwood)

Dear Carol, Barbara and Mike:
Your Mother was my rock and friend starting at Jamestown Festival Park and continuing until her recent illness. She was one of the saints, now in her heavenly home. I will miss her love and friendship as we all do, and at the same time think she and her Lord are discussing history and family and enjoying every minute of it.
My love to all the family,
Perry

Dear Carol and family, I feel for you at this very difficult time. You had your mother a long time, vir but that does not ease the pain. Mary Harris had written me that Mrs. Grubbs had been in the hospital. I have been thinking of you and your mother. These are very difficult losses; moms are so special. Please give my sympathy to Barbara Ann and Michael.

I will call you some day soon.

Love, Jackie
