Shackleford, Jr., Gordon D.

Gordon Deshler Shackelford, Jr., 80, of Petersburg, passed away Monday October 15, 2007. He was the son of the late Gordon D. Sr., & Alice Quicke Shackelford. He attended VMI prior to serving in the United States Army. Upon discharge from the Army he attended and graduated from Randolph Macon College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a member of the Petersburg Country Club for 65 years and was a lifelong member of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church. During his career as Chief of Management with the Defense General Supply Center he provided a leadership role in developing technologically innovative supply chain management procurement systems. After retirement he served as administrator of the Petersburg Home for Ladies for seven years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Martha T. Shackelford, daughter: M. Dabney Shackelford, son: G. Taylor Shackelford; and three nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister Frances S. Gnann. A memorial service will be conducted at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church Thursday, October 18th at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Boston M. Lackey officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Savannah, Georgia. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the VMI Alumni Association, VMI Foundation PO BOX 932 Lexington, Virginia 24450, or the American Heart Association.
