Davis, Horace A.

Horace Algienon Davis, age 77, of Ford, VA, died on Friday, September 7, 2007. He was born in Ford, the son of the late Henry W. and Mary House Davis. He was the current owner and operator of Horace A. Davis excavating and had been in business for approximately 40 years. Horace was a member of the Colonial Heights Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 284. He was well known as an excellent mechanic and he thoroughly enjoyed dancing. Horace was preceded in death by a son, Allen Davis and brother, Lloyd Davis. He is survived by a wife of 54 years, Jane A. Davis; three children, Cathy Spain and husband Carl of Church Road, VA, Theresa Crowder and husband John of Sutherland, VA, and Robert Davis and wife Verna of Ford; and six grandchildren, Curtis Spain, April Green and husband Mike, Kyle Vanlandingham, Christopher Spain, Cole Davis and Brian Davis. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Petersburg, VA on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 4 to 6p.m. Graveside funeral services will follow on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Corinth United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions are made to Crater Community Hospice, or to the Corinth United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Jane and Family:

My heart goes out to you in your time of loss. Horace was a kind, considerate and caring man. I will miss him. Although we don't always understand God's timing we can be sure he has a plan and that all is well. I will keep you in my prayers asking that God's healing give you the strength you need.

Verna and Robert,
My deepest sympathy to you both and to your Family. He fought a hard battle but I guess God decided he had suffered enough and took him to "Paradise". Verna, He could not have asked for a better daughter In law, your very loving and giving compassion and spirit is a lesson for us all. My prayers will be for your entire family as you go through the next few hard days, weeks......
