Gupton, Morris C.

Morris Clifton Gupton, 70, of Dinwiddie County, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007 at his residence. Born in Vance County, NC, he was the son of the late Sidney Cooper and Sophia Grissom Gupton. He was a U. S. Army veteran and retired Plant Manager for the Friend Sand and Gravel Plant with over twenty years service. He was an active member of Smyrna Baptist and the American Legion Post 146. Mr. Gupton was preceded in death by a son, Morris Gupton, Jr.; brothers, Carl Gupton and Frank Gupton, Sr.; and sister, Ruby Nanny. He is survived by his wife, Jannette P. Gupton; five step-children, Frank Gupton and wife, Debra of DeWitt, Lorie Vaughan and husband, Charles of Dinwiddie, Timmy Gupton and wife, Grace of Dinwiddie, Jonan Elder and husband, Robert of DeWitt, and Sid Gupton, II and wife, Christy of DeWitt; grandchildren, Charles Gupton, Brittney Gupton, Maggie Vaughan, Rob Elder, Travis Elder, Sid Gupton, III, Maranda Gupton, Inga Chandler, Kelly Chandler, April Leonard, Michelle Taylor and Pamela Lindsey, and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 29, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Rowland, Pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church officiating.
