Baird, Mary E. H.

Mary Edith Harwell Baird, 83, of Petersburg, Virginia, died August 15, 2007 at Chippenham Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Floyd Winfield Baird.
Mrs. Baird was the daughter of the late Edna King and William Daniel Harwell. She is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Baird Lester and her husband, Bill, of Carson; sons, Floyd W. Baird and his wife, Thayer, also of Carson, and Charles Mark Baird and his wife, Theresa, of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Lori Baird Bowman, Matthew Floyd Baird, William E. Lester, Jr., Megan Elizabeth Baird, and Brittany Baird Wilkinson; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Hawkins, and a devoted friend and companion, Essie Harper.
Mary attended Carson High School and was a graduate of Richmond Business College. She and her husband founded Floyd W. Baird, General Contractors in 1947, and worked together until his death in 1985. She maintained ownership of the business until 2004.
Mrs. Baird was a life-long member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She loved to travel and spent the winters of her retirement years in Florida with friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 18, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Donald O. Collins officiating. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. Following the entombment, the family will receive friends for lunch in the fellowship hall of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Peter, Rosemary and Mark: Just wanted you to know that you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers. Aunt Mary Edith was a wonderful lady who loved her family very much. She had such a beautiful smile. We are certainly going to miss her.
