Walter Charles Williams, 69, of Hopewell died Sunday, August 12, 2007 in the Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA. Mr. Williams was born in Hammond, In and following his military retirement made his home in Hopewell, VA. He was a member of VFW Post #637, American Legion #146, Prince George Masonic Lodge AF&AM, the ACCA Temple and retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Kenneth and Eleanor Bourrell Williams, his wife, Ethel Ann Thompson Williams, a grandson, Benjamin Nicely and a brother, Gene Williams. He is survived by two daughters, Donna W. Nicely of Waverly, Lois A. Williams of Hopewell and a son, Louis C. Williams also of Hopewell, five grandchildren, Amanda L. Williams, Aliea A. Nicely, Katelyn Williams, Jeffery Williams and Branden L. Nicely. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service with visitation following until 8:30 PM. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 2:00 PM in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Randy Hawkins, pastor of Newville Baptist Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio, 44720. I was privileged to know Chuck Williams. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a great listener, and I am sorry to say it has a been a long time since we had talked. To the Williams Family, Chuck was always very sweet to me and he talked of his family often. I just spoke with him on August 9, he again was very sweet and upbeat.
