John Thomas “Tom” Joyner, 79, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Consulate Healthcare in Windsor, VA. Born in Southampton County on September 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Leonard A. Joyner and Anna Elizabeth Britt Joyner. He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Purdie Masonic Lodge #170, A.F.&A.M., and a retired truck driver. He was predeceased by his wife, Hilda Jones Joyner, and his wife, Mae Braswell Joyner.
Mr. Joyner is survived by a daughter, Brenda L. Joyner and her husband, Rick Bodson, of Smithfield; two sons, Larry Thomas Joyner and his wife, Rita, of Hopewell, and Leonard Davis Joyner and his wife, JoAnne, of Zuni; two sisters, Mildred J. Wilcox of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Margaret J. Gordon of Zuni; and four grandchildren, Wesley T. Joyner, G. Laine Brittle, Hillarie J. Garner, and Bryan L. Brittle. He was predeceased by a daughter, Connie Joyner Brittle, and sisters, Minnie J. Billups, Eleanor J. Shea, and Louise J. Gordon, a brother, Leonard Joyner, and a granddaughter, Amber L. Joyner.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, VA, with the Rev. Steve Gupton officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni, VA. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel on Friday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Len and JoAnne Joyner. Memorial donations may be made to Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 636, Windsor, VA 23487. Condolences may be posted on our website at www.jtmorriss.com.
