Harrell, Virginia

Virginia Beach, Virginia
Virginia Harris Harrell, 94, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at her home in Virginia Beach. She was the widow of E. Martin Harrell, her husband of over 60 years. Born June 2, 1913 she grew up in Branchville, Southampton County, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late John Z. and Amy E. Harris, and sister of the late Georgie “Buck” Harris.
Virginia was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the Chapter Q P.E.O., and a member of the Alanton Garden Club.
As involved as she was with church activities and the P.E.O., we will remember her more for who she was: a lady of quiet strength who never thought of herself, but put the needs and concerns of others first. Rather than complain or criticize, she would show love and concern. Her life was a true reflection of God’s grace, compassion, and love. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Emmy Lou Spry; her son, John M. Harrell and his wife, Linda; grandchildren, Kelly Spry and his daughter, Taylor, Marty Spry, Amy Keanini, and Austin Harrell, and six other great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, do something kind for someone you love.
A memorial service will be held at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ted David officiating. Committal services will follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, Virginia at 2:30 p.m. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be posted on our website at www.jtmorriss.com.

Condolences

Emmy Lou, Johnny and family-I have many fond memories of Virginia and Martin and the good times we had when we were growing up.Your mom was very special and Linda did a great job of describing her at the funeral. As Linda spoke I could see Virginia with her sweet smile and hear her caring voice once again.
Eveyone who knew her will miss her greatly.
May God bless you all and bring you peace and comfort during this time.

Linda & Johnny -- my thoughts are with you. Time will let the good memories outweight the sorrow. I know with your deep belief you will rejoice in the knowledge she is with her savior.

Emmy Lou, you probably don't remember me, but my family spent some weekends at your beach house years ago. I remember your mom fondly as she was gracious and caring to us. She had a wonderful smile and made everyone in her presence feel at home which is a rare gift.

I hope you and your family will take solace in the fact that she is where the good go after they have helped improve the world. you take care,

Butch Patton
