Carolyn Faye Cooke Dawson, 38, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk after months of declining health. Faye was the daughter of Helen Cooke Eggleston and her husband, Michael, of Wakefield, and the late Thomas M. Cooke, Sr. She was a 1987 graduate of Surry County High School and after living in Newport News and Windsor for a number of years she had returned to her childhood home in Dendron to be near her family and friends after her health prevented her from driving.
Faye is also survived by her beloved children, Sarah Ruth Vassar of Surry and Thomas Joseph Dawson of Carrsville; her sisters, Teresa Cooke Walton and husband, David, of Roanoke, Susan Cooke Bunn and husband, Keith, of Elberon; her brother, Thomas Cooke, Jr. and wife, Mary Lynn, of Dendron; her grandmother, Ruth Virginia Cooke of Dendron; nieces and nephews, Abigail Walton, Tonya Cooke Raj, Amanda Cooke, Ina Bunn, Seth and Ethan Walton, Brian Cooke, Andrew and Travis Bunn; and her closest friends, Shelley Switzer, Bobbie Lyn Bachelor, Tammy Rollings, Cindy Kyttle and a special cousin, Wanda Pittman. Her precious memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Gary Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Purviance Funeral Home to assist with the cost of services. Helen, I am sorry to hear about the departure from this life of your beloved daughter Carolyn. I pray that the sweet memories of her life and your relationship with Jesus will provide the comfort that you need. Know that they both are as close as you allow them to be. My prayers are with you and your family.

To all that have lost a mother, a sister, a daughter, and a granddaughter, please accept my most sincere sympathy as you have had a loved one so abruptly taken from your lives. I know I am helpless in easing your pain and sorrow, but know I care and that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
