Chambliss, Dr. Arthur D.

Dr. Arthur D. Chambliss, 86, of Enon, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at his residence. Born in Hopewell, he was the son of the late S. C. Chambliss and Ida Hart Chambliss. He was a graduate of Hopewell High School class of 1939, attended The College of William & Mary from 1939 to 1943, and completed his education at Medical College of Virginia from 1948 to1952. He served as an officer in the U. S. Navy during WWII participating in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Dr. Chambliss happily served the residents of Hopewell in dentistry for 53 years. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church, American Legion Post 146, and V.F.W. Post 637. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Marjorie Sapp Chambliss; sons, Arthur D. Chambliss, Jr. and wife, Rosalind of Prince George and Jerry A. Chambliss of Hopewell; grandchildren, Ian D. Chambliss and Whitney L. Chambliss; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Thursday, July 26, at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon, with his dear friends, the Rev. Nancy Stanton McDaniel and Harold Drumheller officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Enon Baptist Church, 13607 N. Enon Church Road, Chester, VA 23836 or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Jerry,
We were so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. We were just told about his death yesterday. We both know this is a very hard time in your life. Always cherish the memories that you had with your dad and they will help you through your sad days. Our thoughts are with you and your family in this very sad time.

John and I are so sorry for the loss of Arthur, we have become fast friends since our moving to Central Ave. What a blessing God gave us to bring us to such a warm and welcoming neighborhood.
