Benson, Donald W.

Monday, July 23, 2007

Donald Wayne Benson, age 49, of Chester, VA, died on Monday, July 23, 2007. He was born in Corpus Christi, TX, and had the ability early on in life to talk to anyone as if he had known them a while. He enjoyed discussing sports of all kinds, and was also a very faithful employee of E. R. Carpenters for almost 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Albaluz Benson; his son, Robert Benson of Chester; father, Rev. James L. Benson, and wife Maria, of Springfield, VA; mother, Margie Rodriquez of San Antonio, TX; brothers, James R. Benson of Austin, TX, John Mark Benson of Houston, TX, and Stephen Earl Benson of Houston; and a sister, Cheryl La Mae Unger of San Antonio, TX. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Chesterfield on Friday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow there on Saturday, at 11 a.m., with interment in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. We met Donald, twice, when he visited his father's church in Alexandria, last time we saw him, was back in December 06, I remember talking to him, how he had worked for carpenter and how his years were memorable. Through brief, I saw in him, the humbleness and humility you see in God’s Child. Our hearts go out to his family and father (Pastor Benson). May it be a source of inner strength to know that there’s a God watching over you, and that, throughout this time of need, He’ll stay close by your side.

Blessed are those who mourned for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

I worked with Donnie (Disco) in one fashion or another through most of his years at Carpenter Co. and it was very sad it hear of his passing. Donnie was one of the friendliest persons that has ever worked at Carpenter, and one of the nicest I have ever known. He never had a bad word to say of anyone and was always eager to say hi, or just throw you a wave or a thumbs up.
He will be truly missed. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.
