Umstead,Jr., William F.

William Francis Umstead, Jr., 64, of Hopewell, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, June 10, 2007. Mr. Umstead was a retired lab technician with Honeywell Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Sr. and Arlene Beasley Umstead and a brother, Joseph Umstead. Mr. Umstead is survived by his wife, Helen Louise Umstead of Hopewell; two daughters, Jo Ann Akers and husband, Winston, Jr of Prince George, and Vicky Umstead of Hopewell; three grandchildren Winston Akers, III, Katelyn Akers and William Tyler Akers all of Prince George; a sister, Judith U. Somesla of Garfield, NJ; and two brothers, James E. Umstead of New Mexico and Michael T. Umstead of Pennsylvania. The family would like to thank Tamika Berry for her excellent care.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he spent his retirement doing what he loved best – spending time with his loving family. Most of the time he could be found cheering on his grandchildren at various sporting events. He also enjoyed browsing the computer, traveling around town and spending time with his beloved dogs. All this with his adoring wife by his side. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 13, 2007 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 14, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George County with The Rev. Dr. James Rogers, pastor of Powers Memorial Baptist Church, officiating. Condolences may be registered with www.j.t.morriss.com.
