Thomas Morris Felts, 86, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, VA.. Born October 8, 1920 in Smithfield, VA. he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Felts and Carrie Morris Felts. He retired in 1984 from the Maintenance Engineering Department of Newport News Shipbuilding after 20 years of service. He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. While in the military service in England he met Joyce Henshall whom he married in February of 1945. He was a member of Uzzell’s United Methodist Church in Smithfield.
Besides Joyce, his wife of 62 years, he is survived by two daughters, C. Victoria Thomas and her husband, Jack, of Yorktown, and Deborah F. Littreal of Shackleford, VA; two brothers, Clarence G. Felts and his wife, Alice, and Benjamin R. Felts and his wife, Jean, both of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his former son-in-law, Dr. Keith Wolford; and two close friends, J. D. Ayers and Ralph Godwin.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol F. Wolford, and a grandson, Jon Morris Wolford.
A graveside service with military rites will be held in Ivor Cemetery, Ivor, VA on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Tommy Reynolds. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, on Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Uzzell’s United Methodist Church, % Ms. Doris Council, 11504 Burwell’s Bay Rd., Smithfield, VA 23430, or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 100, Suffolk, VA 23439. The family wishes to give thanks to Tom’s two doctors for their compassion and care over the years, Dr. John Kessler of Virginia Oncology Associates and Dr. Douglas Weizman of Smithfield Medical Center.
